Multiligament knee injury (MLKI): an expert consensus statement on nomenclature, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

December

2024

In this article, an international group of knee injury experts came together to create a clear, standardized guide for how doctors should describe, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate multiligament knee injuries (MLKIs). These are serious injuries involving damage to two or more major knee ligaments, often caused by high-energy trauma such as sports injuries or accidents. It was generally agreed that the literature favors operative management of MLKIs for younger patients, especially, and that single-stage surgery be performed whenever possible. Establishing best practices can improve communication among surgeons, therapists, and patients.
