Meet The Team
Joe Mayer, Physician Assistant
Joe was born and raised in Queens, New York and graduated from Queens College with his Bachelor of Science in Fitness, Nutrition & Exercise Science. During college, he competed on the Cross Country, Track & Field team. After graduation, he worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in Brooklyn for two years. He subsequently attended Johnson & Wales University and graduated with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Prior to starting his position with Dr. Marx, Joe worked at HSS as part of the overnight Physician Assistant team caring for post-operative patients in the Hospital.
Sarah Bunnell, Practice Manager
Sarah was born and raised in Pennsylvania and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Biobehavior and Health from Pennsylvania State University. Shortly after graduation Sarah made her way to New York City to work in healthcare administration. She was previously our Surgical Coordinator and now oversees all areas of the practice.
Chiffon Roberts, Surgical Coordinator
Chiffon was born and raised in New York City. She received her education at City-as-School in Lower Manhattan and has certifications in Medical Billing and Coding and Medical Administration from the National Healthcare Association (NHA). She has previously worked in radiology, dermatology and gastroenterology practices in New York. Chiffon is our surgical coordinator and organizes all aspects of pre and post-operative care.
Andrew Diaz, Medical Secretary
Andrew was born and raised in Queens, New York. He has completed several certifications in the healthcare industry including phlebotomy. Andrew worked previously as a Patient Access Specialist at HSS. He is fluent in Spanish and assists with translation, as needed, for our patients.
Sylvia Iovino, Medical Secretary
Sylvia was born in Brooklyn, raised in Manhattan and lives in the Bronx. She comes to us with more than 20 years of medical experience on both the administrative and clinical sides. Her experience includes stops in genetics, gastroenterology and orthopedics. Sylvia is fluent in Spanish and helps to support our patients throughout their journey with us.
Sophia Zhuang, Research Assistant
Sophia was born and raised in New Jersey. She graduated from Yale University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology as well as the History of Science, Medicine, & Public Health. During college, she competed on the Women’s Fencing team and conducted research on global mental health. Sophia assists with Dr. Marx’s research and academic work, and also with patient care as needed.
